Lessons of Eden

Apart from all the errors I suspect,

There is one in the bible

That I am fairly sure

Of:

Eden

My childhood companions,

Adam and Eve – I do not think that it was

God who cast them

Out

Of

Eden

To find that all your world’s a garden,

With wide, uncharted, mercifully ugly lands

Just waiting if you’re brave enough to

Go

Out

Of

Eden

To stand, and look at him and see him stand

after you have swallowed truth

that should have scared you to

Not

Go

Out

Of

Eden

To realise that others might have eaten

And in panic made themselves forget

And vowed to, if they could stay with

YOU,

Not

Go

Out

Of

Eden

To know that you now have this power: curiosity,

unscared by width and depth -

That this is just a minor world,

A nest within a wider tree,

Tell me

Would

You

Not

Go

Out

Of

Eden?
